5 Reasons Why You Should Get a Corgi
To be honest, I had no idea this dog breed even existed until I met my brother’s Corgi about 6 years ago when I visited him in Colorado. I wasn’t necessarily sold on the breed at the time, but fast forward to 2017 when I met Tiff, (my now wife) and all of that changed when I meant her Corgi, Beemo.
Beemo changed my entire outlook on this type of dog. He’s one of the sweetest and most loving canines I’ve ever met. There are a couple downsides to Corgis like the amount of hair they shed and how smart they are when they know you’re trying to entice them to do something they don’t want to do, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. With this in mind, I present to you my top 5 reasons why you should get a corgi.
THEY ARE EMOTIONALLY SUPPORTIVE!
Like most good boys, Corgis are emotionally mature and recognize quickly if their owners are happy, sad, mad, etc. Beemo has always comforted my wife and he does the same for me now that I’m in the picture. He’s really good at calming you down if you’re stressed and his face makes you forget whatever worries you may have had.
2. THEY SPLOOT!
I didn’t know this word until meeting corgi owners, but apparently splooting is a real thing. The sploot is characterized by an animal laying down and his or her legs laying flat out behind them, (like in the picture above). I honestly didn’t know I needed splooting in my life until I experienced Beemo doing it, and now I can’t live without it. It’s easily in the top 5 cutest ways an animal can lay down.
3. THEY’RE VERY EXPRESSIVE!
I didn’t say “expensive”, (though they are), I said EXPRESSIVE. I don’t use this trait lightly. Corgis have a face for everything. In my opinion, they’re much more expressive than most dog breeds and their smile fills me with happiness, (like in the photo above). In fact, Beemo is smiling at me as I write this article.
4. THEY’RE ACTIVE AND FUN!
Corgis were bred as herding dogs so they naturally have a TON of energy. I suppose this could be a reason to not get this type of dog as well if that’s something you’re against, but if you like playing fetch and going on trails, Corgis are for you! Although low to the ground, they easily keep up with you. You’ll just want to watch out for them jumping off high things as like weenie dogs, they can break their backs or tiny legs.
5. Finally…THAT CORGI BUTT!
I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about DAT BOOTY. Corgis have the cutest butts and to see one walk by can only fill even the most pessimistic of people with happiness. It’s something about the flat, heart-shaped presentation of this breed’s behind that makes you want to grab it, (but DON’T).
When Corgis walk it shakes from side to side in a way that upstages every booty shaking sequence I’ve ever seen in a rap video. I firmly believe that once the music industry reads this article, we’ll see an uptick in Corgi-butt shaking scenes. I’m looking at you Gucci Mane.
